Food as an influencer of our health

“An Estonian proverb says: „You are what you eat“. We know that food affects our health and well-being. A lesser-known saying is: „Too much sweet is no friend“. By eating too much sugar, we harm our health. These proverbs highlight the importance of nutrition in our lives and call for us to be aware of our eating choices”. These are the words that guide Tiina Möll – a woman like an orchestra in practicing healthy lifestyles – a nutritionist, trainer and masseuse. Tiina wrote down her thoughts regarding food as an influence on health.

Awareness and moderation in choices

“I have always been a conscious eater. It also had an impact on my years of studying at the University of Tartu, when writing my master's thesis in the field of nutrition and sports. When I go to the store, I read those fine labels about the content of nutrients and e-substances and very often put the product back on the shelf. If a child eats healthily from 80%, then he can safely eat sweets and other things from 20%! I remember this piece of wisdom from when I was studying to be a nutritionist at Annely Soots' school. Sugar substitutes are no better than sugar itself. So, moderation in everything – we would still be wise to remember this, especially when choosing suitable treats before the coming Christmas season”, says Tiina.

MySnack fruit bars for kids

“Why do my children and I like MySnack fruit bars and dried fruits the most? First of all, because they are so delicious and healthy at the same time! Delicious taste, smell, with real fruits and fiber! They also fill the stomach and, if consumed in moderation, they do not cause a „sugar rush“, i.e. a too rapid increase in blood sugar, which makes children moody. When thinking about the arrival of the elves, I would recommend that they bring guava, mango and papaya bars in their slippers!”

The importance of fatty acid balance

“In addition to the sugar issue, the balance of fatty acids in the body is important. We know that fish is beneficial, but we don't know that farmed fish do not always provide us with high-quality omega 3 fatty acids. Today, it is possible to take a blood test from a fingertip, send it to a Norwegian laboratory and receive your answer anonymously based on a code. So much exciting health data, according to which a nutritionist can recommend whether you need a supplement at all or whether it is worth continuing to live the same lifestyle. By the way, the balance of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids ensures good health, better athletic performance and also a more balanced mood. Many top athletes in Estonia and abroad, including Olympic champion Gerd Kanter, the Estonian men's basketball team, FCI Levadia, etc., use this powerful ecological balance oil. Who among us wouldn't want to be healthy?”
