IRONMAN Tallinn partner MySnack

It's time to remember the big summer event, IRONMAN Tallinn 2024, a sports celebration of iron endurance and willpower, where we had the great honor of being a partner of the IRONMAN baton.

One of the favorites, Liisi Alamaa, the fastest Estonian woman at IRONMAN Tallinn 2022, 3rd place in the women's overall standings, was also ready to start with the MySnack logos. Unfortunately, she had to abandon the race this time, putting her health first.

Having studied health management and completed her diploma thesis on sports nutrition, Liisi knows what is good for the body. Liisi has shared her experience with us.

“My IRONMAN Tallinn this year (August 24, 2024) was quite short. The high expectations I had set for myself were shattered when I contracted a viral illness at the beginning of the race week. On race day, I decided to put my health first and start my third full-length triathlon four weeks later, on September 21 in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

Strong belief in berries

To stay healthy, I strongly believe in eating berries, which provide the body with enough antioxidants to fight disease. I also like to eat foods that contain vitamin C, such as kiwi, bell peppers, and oranges. My attention was also caught by the MySnack guava fruit bar, which provides 20% of the daily vitamin C requirement. I had never encountered such an exotic fruit before, but the experience was all the more positive because the bar tasted good – sweet, with a slight sour taste.

Comfort is important

Fruit bars are generally good because on days when you don't have much of an appetite, and on sick days when you often don't feel like eating, you can get a lot of energy in a concentrated form. For example, by eating a 30-gram guava bar, you're actually eating 200 g of ripe guava. For the same reason, they're good to take with you on hikes, workouts, as a snack at school or work, etc. There are always those moments in everyday life when you're in a hurry all the time and it feels like you don't have time to eat, or you need a little comfort in your life.

My husband Siim-Erik loves to eat fruit, but peeling and cutting it open often requires so much extra strength that he doesn't have it in him. That's why larger MySnack packages with soft dried fruit are perfect for him. For example, mango is one of those fruits that can sit on the table for days and days, because even though it's delicious, cutting it open is a real pain. At the same time, when it's ready to eat in the cupboard, it can be used as a snack pretty quickly.

Protein for recovery

But in addition to the carbohydrates we get from dried fruit, we also need protein during the day so that our muscles can recover and build themselves, so that the hormones in our body can function properly, so that we have healthy skin, nails and hair. It is precisely because of the protein content that I like the mild pea snack with sea salt. Especially after a workout or even as a last snack in the evening, because protein is many times more beneficial to our body during the night than carbohydrates or fat. Of course, with muscle protein synthesis in mind. Since pea snacks are pleasantly crunchy, they are also a good alternative to traditional chips.“

We hope that Liisi has managed to boost her health enough to reach the finish line in the upcoming IRONMAN competition with the desired time and energy. We wish Liisi once again iron endurance and strength on the track!
